My Chemical Romance Celebrates 20 Years of ‘The Black Parade’
Released on October 23, 2006, The Black Parade became a defining album for My Chemical Romance. It also helped establish the band as a major force in alternative rock.
Led by vocalist Gerard Way, the group developed a distinctive musical identity. Guitarists Ray Toro and Frank Iero contributed powerful arrangements. Meanwhile, bassist Mikey Way helped shape the band’s signature sound.
The album follows a character known as the Patient. Its story explores mortality, regret, and the meaning of life. Dramatic arrangements and emotional lyrics strengthen its central themes.
Several songs became fan favorites. These include “Welcome to the Black Parade,” “Famous Last Words,” “Teenagers,” and “I Don’t Love You.” Among them, “Welcome to the Black Parade” remains one of the band’s most recognizable anthems.
The anniversary tour celebrates the album’s lasting influence. It also introduces this landmark record to younger listeners.
Hollywood Bowl Hosts Five Los Angeles Concerts

The first three concerts take place on October 21, 23, and 24. Notably, the October 23 show coincides with the album’s 20th anniversary.
The band will return for two special Halloween weekend performances. The October 30 concert carries the theme “Devil’s Night.” The Used is scheduled to appear as a special guest.

A Live Experience Built Around Rock Theater
My Chemical Romance has always combined energetic rock music with dramatic performances. The The Black Parade era stands out for its distinctive costumes and visual storytelling.
The album’s concept helped transform the band’s live shows. Its funeral-march imagery and monochromatic aesthetic created a recognizable identity. As a result, the record became more than a collection of individual songs.
The 2026 tour places the album at the center of its performances. Previous shows on the tour have featured the record presented in full, alongside other songs from the band’s catalog.
Beyond the anniversary album, fans continue to celebrate tracks such as “I’m Not Okay (I Promise),” “Helena,” and “Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na).” These songs highlight different stages of the band’s musical evolution.
The final Hollywood Bowl setlists may vary. However, the anniversary theme makes The Black Parade central to the Los Angeles concerts.
